"...whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." - Matthew 25:40
The Market Street Mission ministers to the homeless, helpless, and hopeless in Northern NJ by meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs through a structured program which enables them to lead responsible, productive lives.

OUR VISION:

"As members of His body, the Church, we present the saving power of Jesus Christ to rescue men from the consequences and ultimate penalty of sin and disciple them for victorious Christian living."

Vision was at the heart of the establishment of the Market Street Mission in 1889. The Mission was founded by Morristown residents Dr. and Mrs. F. Owen in response to pleas from distraught wives whose husbands were addicted to alcohol. The Owens opened their home and began to offer classes for these women and later for their husbands.

When the fledgling program outgrew the Owen home, the founders rented a small store on Market Street where they continued the classes and began to hold church services.

Back in those days Market Street was known as "rum row" because of all the saloons located along its two block stretch. The Owens planted their work right in the midst of what they saw as the problem. Although the saloon keepers tried to drive them from the area, the Mission today still stands at the original site. The saloons are gone, but the problem of addiction is still with us.

OUR VALUES:

* To respect the dignity of each individual.
* To be channels of God's reconciliation in this world.
* To strive for excellence in all that we do.
* To be good stewards of God's resources.
* To function in a biblically ethical manner.
* To conduct ourselves with integrity in each relationship.
* To seek, above all, Christ's preeminence in all things.
